Revealed: true scale of crimes of fugitive who lied his way into Oxted

LEGAL documents have revealed the extent of the deception by an American fugitive who tricked his way into the hearts of a close-knit community.

In April, the Mirror exclusively revealed that convicted drugs trafficker, Emmanuel Ganpot, moved to Oxted six years ago, and adopted the false identity of Neo Masuro before befriending unknowing residents. But the truth about his criminal past emerged after he set up Facebook and MySpace accounts and was tracked down by American authorities.

Ganpot, also known as Manny, fled to Oxted to escape a 15-year jail sentence in Florida.

But he was thwarted when an American prosecutor pinned him down using social networking sites, arrested him and had him extradited back to the US last September.

The Mirror has now got hold of the legal documents being used in Ganpot's sentencing to show the full extent of his criminal past.

We've discovered how Ganpot:

●ORGANISED a huge drugs trafficking operation.

●WAS photographed with cocaine whilst on bail for his offence.

● HAD an extensive criminal past and previous convictions for adopting a false identity

●TRIED to con his ex-employers into giving him references he could use in court.

The documents reveal that on March 9 2001, Ganpot supplied and negotiated a drugs delivery with a friend called Jose Negron.

He used two drugs mules to deliver a vast amount of illegal substances to a nightclub called Stormin's Palace in Pinellas County, Florida, paying them $500 each. Ganpot and Negron oversaw the drugs delivery from a nearby cafeteria before spotting police closing in on the two mules.

Both tried to flee, but police halted them at gunpoint. A search of Ganpot's car uncovered 51.2grams of cocaine, 60 pills of MDMA, 70ml of Ketamine, 20oz of GHB, a baggie with cocaine residue, a grinder, a digital palm scale, and £1,020 cash.

Ganpot was charged on May 22 2001 and pleaded no contest to all charges. He was told to return to court on March 13 2003 for sentencing, with an £80,000 bond set on his head.

But on April 1 2001, he bought a one-way ticket to Paris and fled the country to stay with his aunt.

On May 6, the Florida bonds office rang Ganpot's aunt to try and discover his whereabouts, but he answered the phone by mistake.

He told the office: "I'm never coming back" then flew to the UK and moved into a £340,000 house in Neb Lane, Oxted – paid for by his mother.

Ganpot's bond was raised to $1,000,000. The following day, his mother, Danielle Gaudin, walked "calmly" into the bond office and gave them a cheque for $80,000 and told them "you no longer need to look for my son".

Once in Oxted, Ganpot changed his name by deed pole to "Neo Masuro" and befriended several people in the village – all unaware of his criminal past.

Following his disappearance, American police searched Ganpot's water-front home and found a photograph of him smiling at the camera with a group of friends, one of whom was snorting a line of cocaine off the table.

Ganpot spent six years living in Oxted, joined a local band and fully integrated himself in the community. He regularly emailed his friends in America during 2005 about how he was "enjoying the good life with no regrets about fleeing" – without realising police were monitoring him.

His days of freedom were finally over when he was arrested on September 5 last year, and extradited back to America.

The report said: "Evidence shows Ganpot to be a self absorbed criminal whose life revolves around partying and making music and who is willing to be economic with the truth whenever and wherever it suits him to escape responsibility."

Ganpot is due to be sentenced on August 13.

The Mirror will have full coverage of his sentence when it happens.
