Surrey Police hunt man who chased women in Redhill

Police have issued a warning after a man chased two women in separate incidents in Redhill on Tuesday night.

Officers have told other women to be on their guard and have issued an urgent appeal for witnesses to come forward.

The first incident took place in Gatton Park Road at 8.10pm when a woman in her 20s realised she was being followed.

She was between Monsoon Road and Colesmead Road at the time. She ran away but the man chased her into Colesmead Road before disappearing from sight.

The victim described the man as white, of stocky build and wearing a long, black coat with a black hoodie underneath and dark trousers.

The second incident happened in the Laxton Gardens area between 11.15pm and 11.45pm. A teenage girl was walking along the road and turned into the alleyway which links Huddlestone Crescent and Mansfield Drive.

A man approached her from behind and grabbed her. She screamed, managed to break free and ran off towards Portland Drive.

The man chased her to Purbeck Close and on to Ketton Green, where she met friends and he disappeared.

She described the man as stocky and wearing an Ellesse dark fleece top, a dark waterproof jacket with the hood up, dark trousers and green and black trainers.

DC Racheal Pearson of Surrey Police said: "Although the potential victims did not receive serious injury, we are treating both cases very seriously.

"I am very keen to learn of anything similar that has occurred in the area and I ask anyone who was in the vicinity of either incident to contact me as soon as possible on 01483 638185.

"This type of incident is relatively rare in Redhill and we are determined to trace whoever is responsible for both of them."
