£23m boost is welcome
THE £23m announced by London mayor Boris Johnson to kick-start regeneration in Croydon in the wake of the August riots has been welcomed by South London Business, the Croydon-based business support organisation.
The mayor has given £7m to be spent on improving and repairing shopping areas around North End, Surrey Street, George Street and London Road; £6m for upgrading walkways and pedestrian crossings in Wellesley Road; £5m for improving entrances to the town at East and West Croydon and £5m on attracting businesses into the area.
