CONSERVATIVE MP Crispin Blunt said the feedback from the constituency is clear: "We need you to win."

Since he started canvassing last Thursday, Mr Blunt has already visited constituents in Banstead and Tadworth as part of his campaign to retain his seat as Reigate MP.

He endorsed David Cameron's pledge to "bring power back to the people" in the Tory 119 page manifesto released on Tuesday.

Mr Blunt believes the manifesto is particularly relevant as it comes just days after Reigate and Banstead Borough Council were told to rethink their housing strategy by central government.

He said: "Under our manifesto, my understanding is housing targets would go, local development plans would go.

"We would scrap the regional plans to give power back to the borough council.

"This is revolutionary and a very important plan for us. It would allow borough councillors to control planning policy locally.

"99 per cent of the people I have spoken to have said the issues of environment and housing are their biggest concern."

During his campaign Mr Blunt intends on visiting each ward in the borough at least three times, in some cases four or five.

He claimed the manifesto was useful as it showed a clear difference in strategy to the state delivery-orientated strategy from the government, released 24 hours earlier.

"The main feedback from the people I have spoken to so far has been hostility towards the government," he said.

"They have been telling me 'We need you to win' as there is a real determination to get Gordon Brown out."

In May 1997 Crispin Blunt was elected to Parliament as Member for Reigate and was re-elected in 2001.

He is currently Shadow Minister for Home Affairs and Counter-Terrorism.
