EXCITED anticipation has followed the unveiling of £100,000 plans to revitalise Whyteleafe Recreation Ground’s aging play space.

Four specialist playground equipment have been commissioned by Tandridge District Council to draw up eye-catching plans to renovate the site off Hillbury Road.

The current equipment was installed 16 years ago and needs modernising. The varied proposals will be on show at a special consultation day next Thursday (22) from 10am to 2pm in the park’s pavilion.

The designs will be on display and the public will be asked to vote for the one they prefer. All the designs merge the toddler and junior play areas, and have a variety of equipment for children aged from two to 16.

Some of the designs are more traditional, while others include natural play elements like rocks and boulders and climbing walls. The brief for the site also includes a pagoda or shade area for parents or carers and children.

The new installation - expected to take effect this autumn - will give Whyteleafe Recreation Ground the second largest play space of the district’s parks, behind only Queens Park in Caterham.

Which design do you like the best? Vote in our online poll below.

“I like number 4 playdale. I went to see the designs on the day & i have 2 young children. I think this design creates the best use of the space. There are 3 slides 2 of them more like rides. The tunnels are a fun & different idea. the pagoda is nice & the natural wood keeps it all in with the lovely surroundings of Whyteleafe park”
