Elliot returns to boost Twenty 20 chances

NEW Zealand all rounder Grant Elliott is to return to the Surrey Brown Caps squad for the conclusion of the Twenty 20 Cup next week.

Elliott, 30, was with Surrey for the first month and a half of the season, playing a big role in the club's Friends Provident Trophy and Twenty 20 Cup matches throughout April and May before the leaving the squad at the start of June.

He was replaced by Australian Ryan Harris who impressed in two LV County Championship games but has now left to join up with Australia A. Elliott's first game back will be on Wednesday June 24 against Kent Spitfires at the Brit Oval, as Harris' registration does not expire until after Surrey's first game, at Hove against Sussex on Monday.

Surrey Professional Cricket Manager Chris Adams said: "Grant is an excellent person to have with us both in the dressing room and on the pitch and I am very happy to be able to welcome him back.

"His strength of character and experience of high level limited overs cricket will be invaluable to us going into the second phase of Twenty 20."

Surrey Brown Caps are still in with a good chance of qualifying for the Twenty 20 Cup quarter finals having won two and lost three of their first five games.

Their second round of fixtures will consist of away trips to Sussex Sharks and Kent Spitfires and home ties against the Spitfires, Essex Eagles and local rival Middlesex Panthers.
