Keeper Rouse sees red as Banstead lose

Combined Counties League Premier Division

Banstead 0

Chessington & Hook 1

This game always looked like a single goal would settle it and it came midway through the second half from a controversial free-kick and resulted in the Banstead keeper's dismissal.

Featuring several new signings, Banstead thought they had scored early on but having hit the net from a header but the effort was ruled out for a foul, although there appeared not to be any contact between the two players concerned.

One debutant, Mu Maan, recently of Merstham, showed some neat skills along with Ross Chalk, Chris Davidson, Dean Sammut and a few others in a much stronger performance than of late.

The referee needed treatment for a thigh injury after 37 minutes, but carried on.

Chessington keeper Mark Daniels kept them in the game with some fine saves, especially from Chalk.

Banstead had the better of the first half, getting down the flanks and making more chances.

At half-time Sol Patterson-Bohner replaced Craig Prendergast. Carl Gibb, another new signing, headed goalwards, but the ball was saved.

On 61 minutes a Hook header hit the bar and they had another three chances to score, but they went high or wide.

The A's survived a scramble in the area. Another header went over. On 65 minutes Maan's cross only needed a touch but it went safe.

Gavin Quintyne put pressure on the United defence and then finally the visitors scored.

A quick free kick appeared not to be taken from the right spot by Martin Jackson to Darren Smith, the United captain, and he planted the ball past Mark Rouse, who voiced his objections to the referee and was sent off.

Banstead: Rouse, Dilloway, Jelly, Sammut, Davidson, Hawkins, Chalke, Quintyne, Gibbs, Prendergast, Maan, Patterson, Patterson-Bohner, Frampong, Sinclair, Wallace.
