HAVE you heard the one about the horse that walked into a bar?

Well last weekend the classic joke became reality when a trainer brought his racehorse along to a Leatherhead pub.

Andy Chard, who is a regular at the Running Horses in Bridge Street, is the owner of Alph the horse who visited the pub on Sunday.

Landlord Ron Huddlestone said: "The idea was to get the horse along and take pictures of him with the kids.

"He was trotting around the pub and people were a bit frightened of him because he is so big.

"It was a good turnout – lots of people were there.

"Andy is a regular at the pub and we just thought it would be something a bit different."

Mr Huddlestone joked that Alph, who is trained at Thirty Acre Barn in Headley, was even offered a drink for his troubles.

He said: "He usually has a pint of Guinness but this time he had a Spitfire to mark the Battle of Britain."
